The Sheltered Housing proposition to provide essential retirement homes was lodged on 15th May 2007. This important proposition seeks to provide essential retirement homes (and some first time buyers' homes) on a number of sites across the Island.
Subsequently the Minister for Planning and Environment has reviewed the consultation requirements under the new Planning Law.
Whilst the sites included in the proposition were each recommended by the relevant parish Connétable, the Minister is not satisfied that this constitutes adequate consultation. Consequently the Minister has decided to open the proposition to a wider audience and an 8-week public consultation period will begin immediately.
Written or oral submissions can be made to the Minister for Planning and Environment. An Order has been made under Planning Law which will outline the procedures for making submissions and a Notice will appear in the Jersey Gazette next week, which will specify the closing date for written submissions and the date of a public hearing.
A full analysis of the responses will be published at the end of the consultation period. This may result in either amendment to the existing proposition or a revised proposition to take account of issues raised by the public consultees.
Consequently the debate on the presently lodged proposition will be deferred, pending the outcome of the public consultation.
The consultation report relating to the Essential Retirement Homes is currently being amended and will be re-posted on this web page shortly.
