The Transport and Technical Services Department will be installing a new zebra crossing in Mulcaster Street at its junction with Wharf Street next week, to assist pedestrians in crossing this busy junction.
Part of Mulcaster Street will be closed on Monday 19 November between 7pm and 10pm to allow the pedestrian crossing to be laid. Traffic coming down Mulcaster Street will be diverted along Bond Street into Conway Street in a temporary contra flow arrangement.
Road repairs will also be carried out on Mulcaster Street outside ‘Chambers’ the following night, Tuesday 20 November between 7pm and 10pm. This work will also require the road to be closed and traffic will be diverted, in contra flow, along Church Street and Library Place and into Broad Street.
As the work is weather dependent, heavy rain will result in a postponement.
Laying the new road surface will be a noisy operation throughout both three hour periods. This is unavoidable, regrettably, but the contractors will be keeping the noise to the absolute minimum.
The Parish of St Helier is sharing the cost of the provision of this crossing with Transport and Technical Services.
