Two Vehicles Scrapped at Trinity Road Check

Of the 595 vehicles that passed through a Trinity road check four vehicles were impounded. A small commercial vehicle, with a completely corroded chassis, and an unregistered 4X4 also with a corroded chassis were immediately scrapped and towed directly to be dumped. Another small commercial vehicle was impounded for not having any usable seat belts. A large commercial vehicle was sent directly to a nearby work site for repair to its brakes and oil leaks.

In addition,15 drivers were issued with defect notices, five drivers have to present driving and insurance documents at Trinity Parish hall and a further four drivers have to notify Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS), of a change in keeper details. A further vehicle was found to be using red diesel.

The road check was conducted outside Trinity parish hall, between 4.30 and

6 pm on Tuesday 18 September 2007 by Officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, joined by Customs and Immigration and the Honorary Police.

Customs and Immigration impounded a medium sized goods vehicle for running on red diesel. Follow up investigations by Customs detected a further vehicle also running on red diesel and enquiries are continuing.

Fifteen drivers were issued with defect notices requiring them to present their vehicle at DVS, with defects rectified. Defects included steering, bodywork, tyres, exhausts and brake lights.

Five drivers must present driving licences and insurance at Trinity parish hall and a further four drivers have to inform DVS of changes to registration details.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir , commented “This was a very productive road check for each of the agencies involved. Two more vehicles that were a danger to the drivers and other road users and which should have been taken off the road by their owners some time ago were condemned to the scrap heap. Several cars had no brake lights working whatsoever and several more had only one working. I would emphasise the importance to all motorists of regularly checking the lights and tyres on their vehicles, particularly as we approach the longer hours of darkness”.
