Ownership of an area of land, dense with trees, near Cimétière des Quennevais is being transferred from the States of Jersey to the Parish of St Brelade. A condition of this transfer, imposed by the parish, is that the copse area is thinned, meaning the gardeners can maintain the land to a consistent standard, and the remaining trees have room to flourish. The felling of certain trees is essential for future maintenance to continue.
Men of the Trees have been consulted by the States of Jersey, and their spokesman Conrad Evans says that “whilst the Men of the Trees never like to see trees being felled, I have to agree that in this situation, the removal of some excess trees will allow those that remain to develop more fully and improve the area as a whole”.
The trees will be removed next week, after which the ownership and upkeep will officially transfer to the parish.
