Of the 254 vehicles stopped on Wednesday 30th May in a road check in St Saviour, two cars were impounded, nine drivers were issued with defect notices and three had out of date insurance discs.
Officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS) coordinated this multi agency road check at Mont Millais, involving officers from Customs and Immigration and the Honorary Police of St Saviour.
The car park at Jersey College for Girls was used for the vehicle inspections and testing of diesel fuel to minimise disruption to traffic flow.
A car and a small commercial vehicle were impounded due to defective tyres and exhaust and the drivers of nine further vehicles were issued with defect notices requiring them to present their vehicles at DVS with the defects rectified. Defects included: bodywork; lighting and exhausts.
Three drivers were found to have out of date insurance discs.
Alan Muir, Inspector of Motor Traffic, said, “While the standard of vehicle passing the road check was good, it is disturbing that we still come across people driving around on bald tyres. It was particularly wet this morning and if those found with bald tyres had attempted to stop in an emergency, they wouldn’t, with potentially serious consequences. Drivers should check tyres and lights regularly. It’s easy and takes no time at all, but could save a life.”
