11 December 2007
Captain Howard Le Cornu, Chief Executive and Harbour Master has issued the following statement in relation to an incident involving Commodore Goodwill on Monday 10 December 2007.
I can confirm that at approximately 07:00am on Monday 10 December 2007, one of the two freight vessels operated by Condor Ferries, the Commodore Goodwill, made contact with the breakwater in St Helier Harbour whilst under the command of the ship’s Master. The incident took place whilst the ship was berthing and in very high winds.
No other vessel was involved and Condor Ferries has confirmed that no injuries were sustained or structural damage caused to the ship. However, there was some damage to the vessel’s transmission.
The damage has now been assessed and the vessel has returned to Portsmouth to discharge. The ship will then be taken out of service whilst essential repairs are carried out. Condor Ferries estimate that service will be resumed by this weekend although on reduced power.
Jersey Harbours are investigating the incident and will make no further comment at this time.
