People in
Jersey
who are having problems with their home composting can now ring a new helpline (448448) for advice. As part of efforts to reduce waste in the island, the Transport and Technical Services department provide low cost £10 home composting kits which are available at most garden centres. Since 2004, almost 2,000 composting kits have been sold.
The helpline has been set up to offer tips on how to get the most from your compost, how to tackle common composting problems and how to use your compost to help your garden bloom.
Lou Wagstaffe, TTS Compost Manager, who’ll be running the helpline, says “Composting is not only a great way of reducing waste but a fantastic natural product for beautiful, healthy gardens. We hope this helpline will offer support to people who perhaps are new to composting and need a bit of advice on how to improve the quality of their compost.”
A new booklet with tips about how to use compost in the garden has also been produced. It can be downloaded from www.gov.je/recycling or a copy can be obtained by ringing the helpline.
The Home Composting helpline number is 448448.
