Of the 681 vehicles that passed through a multi agency road check held on

, near to the Vic in the Valley, only 9 drivers were issued with defect notices.
Officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS) co-ordinated a multi-agency road check this morning involving Officers from Customs and Immigration, the Honorary Police of St Lawrence and the Honorary Police of St Peter.
Nine drivers were issued with notices requiring them to rectify defects prior to presenting their vehicles at Driver and Vehicle Standards. The problems included blowing exhaust systems, oil leaks faulty lights, and inadequate mirrors. One lorry driver was required to return his vehicle to its depot to repair its steering. Additionally, a dumper truck driver was required to return his vehicle directly back to a nearby construction site to have numerous problems rectified.
Customs Officers sampled fuel from several vehicles and discovered 1 vehicle running on red diesel. Enquiries later revealed that, on this occasion, the vehicle was operating lawfully.
Three drivers will have to produce their driving licence and insurance at St Lawrence Parish Hall.
Alan Muir, Inspector of Motor Traffic, said ”This was an excellent example of Government agencies working in partnership with their Honorary Police colleagues, and it was pleasing to note that the vast majority of vehicles passing through the check appeared to be in a road worthy condition.”
