Airport Rescue & Fire Service Carry Out Emergency Driving Assessments

10 November 2008

Emergency Fire Appliance Driver (EFAD) training for Jersey Airport Fire Fighters will be carried out on the Island’s roads over the next few weeks to revalidate the competency of drivers. The training assessments, which are carried out every three years, will involve up to fourteen experienced fire crew who will be assessed by a qualified Service instructors.

The assessment drives will include simulated blue light responses under realistic conditions, which will involve the use of the airport’s major foam tenders. The drives will take in one of two routes – westerly through St Ouen or easterly to La Collette.

Although it is only a training exercise, members of the public are advised to give way to oncoming emergency vehicles during this time. The States of Jersey Emergency Services will have full details of the exercises, which will take place anytime between 08:30am and 5pm on the following days: Thursday 6 November, Monday 10 November, Wednesday 12 November, Friday 14 November, Wednesday 26 November, Friday 28 November and Tuesday 2 December 2008.

Jersey Airport’s Rescue & Fire Service driver training programme was put in place in 2005. This came as a result of recommendations by officers from Social Security, following a driving incident in 2004. It was agreed that comprehensive initial training and regular monitoring of driver competencies would take place in order to maintain the required standards.
