The refurbishment work on Patriotic Street Car Park is now complete and all parking spaces are once more available for public use. The Multi-storey Car Park is now looking much smarter with new floor surfaces, new paintwork and improved lighting. Essential concrete repairs were also carried out.
This was the first major refurbishment to the
Patriotic Street Car Par Park since it was built in 1986. The £1.1m cost of the project was paid for from the income from parking paycards.
Work started in January this year and was carefully programmed to ensure that it would be undertaken prior to the start of development of the Esplanade Car Park. Sand Street Car Park has been used to temporarily accommodate three floors of long stay parking while spaces have been unavailable at
Patriotic Street
, so it was also important that these would be reinstated for shoppers in the lead up to Christmas, when demand is higher.
“It is vital that we maintain our public buildings and infrastructure in order to maximise the value that can be extracted from them,” said Deputy
Guy de Faye
, Minister for Transport and Technical Services. “I am really pleased that Patriotic Street Car Park not only looks so much better, but is also now in a considerably improved structural condition, significantly extending its useful life. The initial public feedback has been good and the improved lighting has been especially welcomed.”
The Minister added that although the contract had been managed to minimise disruption to the public he would like to thank them for their understanding and cooperation throughout the project.
