82 per cent of Strategic Plan initiatives are either complete, or on track according to the Chief Minister’s latest report to States Members.
As of June 2008, a quarter (60) of the 240 initiatives are complete, 57 per cent (137) of initiatives are on track (green), 14 per cent (33) of initiatives are slight behind schedule, and just three per cent or eight initiatives, are seriously off track.
The report shows a whole raft of social, environmental, cultural and financial initiatives have been completed. These include:
• Introducing consumer protection legislation
• Island-wide strategy for youth work
• Providing winter fuel payments for people on low incomes
• Introducing a Human Rights Law
• Bring in the Income Support system
• Investigating sharing more services with Guernsey
• New powers to help other countries confiscate the proceeds of crime
• Promote affordable home ownership through a shared equity scheme
• Regenerate and improve safety in St Helier
• Test efficiency and effectiveness of public services through regular reviews of public services
• Develop Health for Life (health improvement strategy) for Jersey
• Complete survey of school children’s health
• Make Jersey safer by putting in place the ‘Building a Safer Society’ project
• Support initiatives to revive Jèrriaise
• Introduce Prince’s Trust
The Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, commented: ‘It’s excellent news that two years into the Strategic Plan, more than 80 per cent of initiatives are either completed or on track. What is particular pleasing is that a significant portion of these projects will make a real and long term difference to life for people in Jersey; consumer protection, the early years strategy, a shared equity scheme, higher education, and skills initiatives will help improve the quality and standard of life in the Island, and make it a more equitable, fairer society with opportunities for all.
‘Slippage is monitored tightly, but in some cases priorities have changed – as they should, but on the whole, these figures show excellent progress in the public service working for Jersey.’
