Night work to strengthen and improve the airport runway will cease operation in the early hours of this Friday morning, 19 December for the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Work is due to recommence on the evening of Monday 5 January 2009.
Despite inclement weather at the beginning of December forcing some delay, work is now back on schedule. The resurfacing stage has now been completed and by Thursday evening the grooving work will also have finished.
When the project recommences in January work will begin on the lighting stage, which will include the control systems as well as centreline, edge and threshold lighting.
Operations Director for Jersey Airport, Sandy Sawyer, said, “Although the resurfacing work is now completed, we still have a fair bit to do in terms of the lighting system. However, what is important is that the largest part of the project is now behind us without any major safety issues”.
The runway project is due for completion by spring 2009.
