The Energy from Waste (EfW) plant at Bellozanne will be closed for essential maintenance for four days from Friday 9 May, reopening on Tuesday 13 May. This will mean that no waste can be delivered to the plant during that time.
Last November a survey was undertaken which identified essential repairs needed to be undertaken as soon as possible to the crane beams and wall in the waste reception bunker. Transport and Technical Services was keen to minimise the disruption to the public and decided the work should be undertaken to coincide with Liberation Day and the immediately following Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The EfW plant is now 28 years old and past its recommended operational lifespan, therefore problems like this are likely to occur. However, this is the first time that the EFW has had to close for planned repair works and not accept waste deliveries in its entire 28 year history.
