The Economic Development Department is considering what action to take following the announcement from HD Ferries that they are to cease their ferry service between the Channel Islands and France this weekend.
The Assistant Minister for EDD, Deputy Alan Maclean, says he’s very disappointed at the news –
“We have been working very hard with HD Ferries to ensure their service runs reliably, and this summer has seen a much more efficient operation from them. We are keen the service should succeed, but this is the second season in a row that the company has not run a service throughout the winter.
This kind of cherry-picking is unacceptable and we are taking advice before deciding how we should deal with this announcement. However, our immediate concerns are for the staff and passengers that are affected.”
Deputy Maclean says his main concern is to provide islanders with a long term and sustained operation all year round.
