Households eligible for the £50 GST Bonus have until 15 December 2008 to submit their application form.
The bonus can be claimed by any household where:
- at least one adult member has been resident in Jersey for the last five years and
- no member of the household is liable to pay Jersey income tax for the 2007 calendar year and
- the household is not receiving Income Support during the seven days prior to applying for this GST bonus.
Some households receiving transition (protected) payments under Income Support are also eligible. They have already been sent a letter inviting them to return an application form. To qualify they must not be liable for income tax for the 2007 calendar year.
Senator Paul Routier, the Minister for Social Security, commented: ‘I encourage all those who think they may be eligible, particularly pensioners who are not claiming Income Support and not paying income tax, to apply for the £50 GST Bonus. The last date that applications can be accepted is Monday 15 December. My staff will be seeking to make sure that all who apply and qualify for the GST bonus receive their payment before Christmas.’
