30 July 2008
Companies registered for GST should be sending their first quarterly returns and payment into the Income Tax Office now. The deadline for returns for the standard quarter of 6 May – 30 June, is this Thursday 31st July.
This is the first time that companies will be completing the return forms since GST was introduced on 6th May.
Director of GST, Steve Lowthorpe added: “Some companies have selected ‘non-standard’ quarters which fit in with their individual accounting procedures. If the company is in any doubt they should look at their GST certificate of registration which shows if a company needs to file a return by this Thursday.”
A blank return form has been sent to companies by the Income Tax Office. If a company has not yet received a blank return they should contact the Income Tax Office on 440555 without delay. Returns can also be made electronically via the Income Tax Web site. A link to the site can be found on www.gov.je/gst or, if the company already uses the Income Tax Office ITIS software, they can use this software to make their return.
GST returns for taxpayers who are required to file a return for the periods ending in July or August 2008 will receive a paper return before the end of the tax period.
