PRESS RELEASE from the Jersey Child Protection Committee, 3rd December 2008
JCPC Chair’s appointment extended for a further 6 months.
Professor June Thoburn has had her contract as Independent Chair of the Jersey Child Protection Committee extended until 30 March 2009.
Professor Thoburn was originally appointed to the position for a 12 month period from 1 October 2007. As well as Chairing meetings of the JCPC she has had a broader remit ‘to ensure that arrangements are in place to implement any recommendations relating to multi-agency child protection arising from the Andrew Williamson Inquiry into child protection arrangements in Jersey’ and to advise ministers generally on child protection services.
Her report marking the end of her 12 month contract has been submitted to Ministers and is below and on the JCPC website, along with her response to the Williamson recommendations.
This extension to Professor Thoburn’s contract will allow her to continue to advise on the implementation of the Williamson recommendations. Before leaving she plans to oversee the first JCPC Annual Public Meeting and the publication of an Annual Report of the JCPC.
She will advise on the appointment of her successor and of the Professional Officer who will manage the day to day work of the JCPC.
