Queen’s Road and La Grande Route de St Jean were resurfaced during the summer of 2006 and the road surface has performed well. However, localised cracking has occurred in the asphalt surface surrounding a number of manholes.
Highways Contractor Brenwal Ltd will be returning to the site during the week beginning 18 February 2008 to carry out repairs to the manholes and, with Engineers from Transport and Technical Services, investigate why the cracks occurred.
John Richardson explained “Initial investigations suggest the problem is the result of a weakness in the concrete surrounding the iron manhole frame. This is allowing the road to flex slightly as traffic passes over, locally cracking the road surface. While this is unfortunate, repair works will only be needed to the small area of road surface immediately surrounding the manholes.”
