Jersey’s Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, has appointed Senator Philip Ozouf to the role of Deputy Chief Minister. Senator Ozouf is also the Minister for Treasury and Resources.
As the Chief Minister’s deputy, Senator Ozouf will be expected to represent, and deputise for, the Chief Minister in his absence, including chairing Council of Ministers meetings.
Senator Ozouf has been a States Member for nine years, first as a Deputy and for the last six years, as a Senator. He was re-elected as a Senator in October.
During this time, the Senator has been involved with, or presided over, a number of major committees. He was vice-president of the former Finance and Economics Committee, president of both the Planning and Environment and Public Services (now Transport and Technical Services) committees, and until recently, was Jersey’s Minister for Economic Development.
Commenting on the appointment, Senator Le Sueur said: ‘Senator Ozouf’s extensive experience as a States Member, presiding over a number of important committees, together with his experience abroad and command of languages, make him an excellent choice for the role; particularly as Jersey adopts a more international outlook.’
