In April 2008 Senator Freddie Cohen, the Minister for Planning and Environment released for consultation, a White Paper and new supplementary planning guidance aimed at encouraging the regeneration of St Helier. The consultation period for this has now been extended to 31 July 2008 .
Senator Cohen said: “It is essential that we support the regeneration of town, creating desirable homes and amenities spaces for Islanders. The draft guidelines aim to encourage development by identifying sites where planning standards could be changed and setting out more flexible arrangements for parking and the provision of external amenity space. They are critical to the vibrancy and life of the whole of St Helier. I have extended the deadline enabling more people to participate in the process of shaping the future of our town.
