Team Jersey fly the Flag at Travel Writers Dinner

17 November 2008

“Team Jersey” – a group of ten luxury hoteliers - successfully hosted the Guild of Travel Writers Dinner on Sunday at the Marriott Grosvenor Square. More than 430 writers and journalists attended the evening on the eve of World Travel market.

The objective was to promote Jersey’s four star and luxury hotels to the media and extend an invitation to Guild members to come to Jersey in 2009 to see for themselves and experience the island’s extensive range of new developments.

“I understand the evening was a superb opportunity to grab the attention of this hugely influential group and engage with them to present Jersey as a destination with so many compelling reasons to visit the island next year – I am very pleased to learn of the success” said Economic Development Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf.

Several Guild members – one of whom won an award during the evening for the most outstanding article written and published in 2008 by a Guild member - committed to visit the island in 2009 and the Daily Telegraph’s “Hotel Guru” Fiona Duncan expressed a determination “finally” to commit to come to Jersey and visit Jersey’s newer luxury hotels…”I came many years ago and have been hearing so much about Jersey. “It is high time I came again” Fiona said during the evening.

Jersey Tourism was supported during the evening by Jersey Oyster Company who served oysters during the reception. The fresh crab meat and Jersey Dairy ice cream featured on the menu prepared by the Marriott’s brigade overseen by Jason Atherton was widely praised by attendees.
