Tourism and Top Hotels Combine at Prestigious London Event

22 October 2008

Jersey Tourism has gathered together many of Jersey's leading hoteliers to promote the island’s luxury product at the highly prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers dinner.

The event, to be held in London on November 9th at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel, attracts over 400 travel writers and industry major players on the eve of the World Travel Market exhibition.

Jersey Tourism, in association with ten hotels from the island, has negotiated a valuable sponsorship package to promote Jersey’s recent and continuing development of its tourism product. The promotional activity is designed to showcase Jersey’s major step forward in terms of luxury accommodation, spas and tourism facilities.

The main element of the sponsorship package is for the reception that preludes the dinner. This is perceived as the most attractive element of the event as it allows the 420 attendees to circulate and network. The ten hotel partners will enjoy prominent placing and high visibility to an extremely influential audience.

Joining Jersey Tourism to take part in the event in London are:

Malcolm Lewis, Longueville Manor
Emma Snow, The Royal Yacht Hotel
Patrick Burke, The Atlantic Hotel
Tim Phillips, The Club Hotel & Spa, Bohemia Restaurant
Simon Dufty, Cardington House
Robert Parker, Hotel de France
Andrew Shrimpton, Somerville Hotel
Martin Kelly, L'Horizon Hotel & Spa
Anna Dowling, Grand Jersey
Lisa Stewart, The Radisson SAS Waterfront Hotel

Jersey Oysters will be the talk of the pre-dinner reception as they are distributed and opened by Jersey Oyster Company directors Steve Luce and Christopher Le Masurier.

As well as sponsoring the reception, Jersey Tourism has also secured the opportunity to showcase a wide variety of Genuine Jersey produce at the evening’s main event, the Guild Dinner.

Taking their place on the menu will be Jersey Brown Crab (Chancre), Jersey Jewel Tomatoes and Jersey Dairy ice cream.

Jason Atherton, executive head chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin star Maze Restaurant – located at the Marriott Grosvenor Square – said: “It is a pleasure to work with such quality produce. We are passionate about sourcing high quality local ingredients, and Jersey has an excellent reputation in this regard.”

Spike Productions is producing a short promotional film featuring Guild Chairman John Carter enjoying a short break to Jersey. In the film, to be shown at the start of the dinner, Carter – one of the original presenters of Wish You Were Here…? and BBC Holiday - will introduce the audience to some of Jersey’s most luxurious and aspirational experiences. Footage of the participating hotels will then be projected on large screens throughout the dinner. Furthermore the footage will be featured on the Jersey stand at World Travel Market that will follow on from the Guild dinner for four days at the Excel exhibition centre.

John Carter, Chairman of the British Guild of Travel Writers, has visited Jersey many times and said: “I spent three days in Jersey at the start of September, and was struck by the sheer quality of the tourism product on offer. In my career I have travelled just about everywhere, and can say wholeheartedly that some aspects of Jersey are truly world class.”

Senator Philip Ozouf Minster for Economic Development said: “I am delighted to have brought together Jersey’s leading hoteliers to promote the island at this prestigious event. On the eve of World Travel Market there could not be a better forum to present the island to both the UK and international market. The levels of recent investment have put us in a very strong position to meet up to the challenges of a very competitive marketplace. It is only by government and the industry working together, that we will ensure that Jersey’s tourism industry continues to grow.”
