An existing concessionaire at
Jersey Airport is negotiating to take one of the leases of the three new retail outlets being created in the redeveloped airside departures lounge. Local company, Jersey Pearl, who will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2010, has already been trading at Jersey Airport for the past 12 years. They are the second outlet to be confirmed in the new area alongside Jersey Pottery and La Mare Wine Estates.
The new shop will occupy some 635 square feet, and will be larger than its current offering. Whilst it will continue to trade under the name of Jersey Pearl, the larger space means it will be able to offer an even wider choice of pearl jewellery. Once the terms of the lease are finalised, work will commence on fitting out the new shop, which it hopes to be trading from by the end of September 2009. In the meantime, Jersey Pearl will continue to trade from its temporary site, currently located at the entrance to the new airside departures lounge.
Managing Director for Jersey Pearl, John Taylor, said, “Jersey Airport offers an important window for promotion of the Jersey Pearl brand name. This new retail unit will allow for a wider range of product, ideally suited for travellers looking for those final Jersey keepsakes”.
Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Senator Paul Routier, is pleased to see the continuing presence of Jersey Pearl at the airport. He said, “Jersey Airport and Jersey Pearl have enjoyed a successful partnership over the years and I am delighted to hear this will continue as this exciting new departures lounge area will open up new opportunities for us all”.
The eight year lease was awarded following an expression of interest process, carried out by Buckley & Co on behalf of Jersey Airport. Meanwhile, negotiations for the remaining lease continue with an interested partner and an announcement as to the successful tenant will be made in due course.
