The first stage of the redevelopment of the departures lounge at Jersey Airport has been completed with the reopening of retail outlet, WHSmith. The new enlarged shop, which now occupies some 2067 square feet has moved to a more prominent location and is the first retail outlet passengers will see as they enter the departures lounge having cleared security. As a result of its increased retail area, WHSmith is now able to offer a wider range of goods, including stationery, confectionery, magazines and books.
Overall, work is progressing well on the redevelopment project, which is expected to be fully completed by the end of July 2009. Much of the areas designated for refurbishment have now been cordoned off and contractors are on site fitting out the major retail outlet, World Duty Free, which will occupy the largest of the retail areas within the refurbished lounge. Whilst some noise level is unavoidable, disruption to passengers and airlines are being kept to a minimum and all regular goods and services offered within the area are still available.
