The Treasury Minister has announced the details of a planned review of Jersey’s fiscal strategy. Speaking at today’s Corporate Services Scrutiny Hearing, Senator Ozouf explained to panel members that the review has now begun. He said it was necessary to assess all the options to enable the island to continue funding essential public services and supporting its economic objectives.
Senator Ozouf said: “When I launched the restructuring of the Treasury and Resources Department in August, I announced I would also be conducting a review of our fiscal strategy. This work is now proceeding, and I am publishing the Terms of Reference today."
An extensive period of public consultation will begin early next year, and proposals for an updated fiscal strategy will be presented to the Council of Ministers and subsequently to the States for debate.
Senator Ozouf added: “Next week I intend to publish proposals for a Comprehensive Spending Review, which was also discussed at today’s Scrutiny hearing.”
