Jersey Fisherman’s association is staging a festival day for islanders and visitors to enjoy on
Saturday 25th July. Located on Victoria Pier the event will be a celebration of Jersey’s sea fishing industry.
Spokesman for Jersey Fisherman’s Association Don Thomson said: “Jersey’s professional fishermen wanted to put on a big day for Jersey’s public to participate in the celebration of our fishing heritage. Our sea food is
world class and the industry is an integral part the island’s life and character. Hosting a day of
fun, music and activity is our way of demonstrating the pride we have in our industry”.
All proceeds for the festival are to be donated to
local maritime charities; RNLI, Channel Isles Air Search and Variety Sailing Trust.
The main focus is on local seafood. There will be a dedicated dining area surrounded by various local seafood stalls, plus local ciders and beers. Entertainment will be from 10 am to 10 pm including:
- a water carnival,
- decoration of the fleet
- live French/Jersey simulated sea rescue using a French helicopter “Dragon 55” with the new local lifeboat
- live music with visiting sea-shanty bands
- Genuine Jersey produce
- local traders stalls
- a crafts market
- cooking demonstrations by well known French and local chefs.
Invitations have been extended to Guernsey and French fishing fleet to join the celebrations.
Funds for the event have largely been secured however the intention is for the event to raise
significant sums for the stated charities and a number of specific activities are available for sponsorship.
The organizers would be pleased to hear from any companies or individuals that could support the event, or who may wish to participate as exhibitors or traders.
