Improvements have been made to facilities at Jersey Airport for a number of arriving and departing passengers with the opening last Saturday morning, 23 May 2009, of the new
International Departure Lounge and Arrivals Concourse. The refurbishment of the facility, which took just 11 weeks to complete, came as a result of an expected increase in air traffic to and from mainland Europe, which requires passengers to clear immigration upon arrival before collecting luggage. Although primarily used for these international flights, the facility is multi-functional and can also handle domestic UK traffic when required. Furthermore, the facility can also be adapted to cater for future transit passengers. The departures lounge area can comfortably seat up to 130 passengers.
The refurbishment of the international area is just one of a number of improvements currently taking place at Jersey Airport. As well as construction work on the new Air Traffic Control Tower and Building, which is due for completion in October 2009, a major refurbishment of the airside departures lounge is also underway. This will offer up a larger range of retail outlets as well as improvements to the catering outlet and bar area.
Jersey Airport’s Operations Director, Sandy Sawyer welcomes the completion of the international lounge and is pleased with the new facilities. She said, “The redevelopment of the international lounge is just part of our long term commitment to improve the comfort for our passengers as well as the facilities and services available to them. By ensuring they have a smooth journey through the airport it can only help to ensure that we give them a more positive first and last impression of the Island”.
The project was managed by Capita Symonds (CI) Ltd and local contractor Style undertook the fit out of the facility.
