Runway Works: Removal of Asphalt Plant

05 February 2009

Completion of the work to resurface the runway at Jersey Airport is moving another step closer with the dismantling and removal of the Asphalt Plant. The machinery, which was used to make the asphalt for the runway is being removed from the airport and transported back to St Helier Harbour over two consecutive nights –  Thursday evening, 5 February 2009 and Friday evening, 6 February 2009.

Due to the size and number of parts that make up the plant, it is not possible to move it all in one go, hence the reason to remove it from the airport over two evenings, when there is likely to be less traffic on the roads. The transportation process will be slow as the vehicles are unable to travel at speeds more than 15mph. It is likely to take approximately one and a half hours.

The convoy of vehicles is due to leave the airport at approx 22:00hrs on both evenings and make its way easterly down Beaumont Hill, Victoria Avenue and the Esplanade towards St Helier Harbour. Motorists are advised to take an alternative route and where possible avoid this route all together during this time.

The removal process is being co-ordinated by the Runway Project Management Team with the support of Jersey Harbours, DVS and TTS.
