Development briefs detailing the specification for life-long homes, to be built on the rezoned sites, have been approved by the Minister for Planning and Environment.
Last years rezoning for life-long homes was the first step towards ensuring the Island is able to meet the needs of its increasing ageing population, by providing good quality and well designed retirement accommodation.
In response to requests from several parish Connétables, eight sites were rezoned, in St. Saviour, St. Clement, St. John , St. Mary, St. Brelade, Grouville and Trinity, which collectively will provide at least 337 life-long homes; and a 70 bed care and dementia home.
The Assistant Minister for Planning and Environment, Deputy Anne Pryke, together with the former Assistant Minister for Housing, Deputy Jackie Hilton, were given the responsibility of developing the life-long homes criteria to ensure that the dwellings are designed to the highest aesthetic, environmental and convenience standards.
Deputy Anne Pryke said, “My aim is that these homes should be carefully designed to enable people to live independently for as long as possible, as well as being environmentally friendly and architecturally pleasing, and I am very pleased that the briefs are now published”.
Those involved with the development of the rezoned sites have received a copy of the development brief and planning applications have been invited.
