The Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, Deputy James Reed, has sent his warmest congratulations to everyone who has been selected to represent Jersey at the Natwest Island Games. The Games will be held in Aland, a group of Finnish islands between Sweden and Russia.
Deputy Reed said: "I really hope that the many hours of training are now rewarded and our Jersey team returns with many medals. I wish the whole team every success. I am sure they will be excellent ambassadors for Jersey and hope that they all come back with good memories of a wonderful Games.”
The Minister also gave his thanks to all the officials, coaches and medical staff who have spent many hours preparing the Jersey team for competition.
"The work involved in getting such a large team to these Games takes a huge amount of effort and countless hours of work. I would like to congratulate all members of the Island Games Association of Jersey for all they have done to enable our Island to participate in this event. Also a big thank you to all the sponsors for their support, especially Jersey Post, the official Jersey Island Games team sponsors.”
He also added: “I know that the Jersey media will be well represented in Aland and I thank them in advance for what I am sure will be comprehensive and excellent coverage, enabling all those of us remaining at home to follow our team”.
Although Deputy Reed will not be able to attend the games, the island will be represented by Assistant Minister Deputy Andrew Green.
