12 of the 212 vehicles that passed through a St Martin road check were found to have faulty brake lights. 6 drivers were issued with defect notices and a further driver has to produce their driving and insurance documents at Police headquarters.
Between 9:30am and 11:00am on Tuesday 25 August 2009, officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS), the States of Jersey Police roads policing unit, Customs and Immigration and the Honorary Police of St Martin conducted a road check near to the St Martin public hall.
Over 5% of the vehicles that passed through the check were found to have at least 1 brake light not working. All were advised at the road side to rectify the defect.
6 drivers were issued with defect notices requiring them to present their vehicles at DVS with defects rectified. Defects included: worn tyres, inoperative lights and noisy exhaust systems.
1 driver has to produce their driving documents at Police headquarters. 2 other drivers have to notify DVS of a change in their vehicle details.
Officers from Customs and Immigration sampled fuel from all the diesel vehicles inspected, and were pleased to record that all were running lawfully.
Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir, commented “Brake lights can blow at any time. It’s important, therefore, that motorists check lights on their vehicle regularly to ensure that everything is working properly”.
