16 July 2010
Roadworks on Victoria Avenue will be completed on time and within budget on Friday 16 July 2010.
Victoria Avenue has been resurfaced in 3 phases from Bel Royal to West Park during the past 2 and a half years. Works have included new kerbs, drainage, street lighting, pedestrian crossings and footpaths. Improvements to the alignment of the road, footpaths and car parks have been included in the project and the right turn lanes at both Rue du Galet and First Tower have been extended to provide additional capacity, reducing congestion at peak times.
The total cost of the project is £5.9 million and has been jointly funded by TTS and the Treasury Department from the Fiscal Stimulus Fund.
The Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Connetable Mike Jackson, said "I am pleased to see the successful completion of this difficult project. I would like to thank all residents and businesses in the area for their cooperation during the construction period and would particularly like to thank the 30,000 motorists a day who have travelled through the works for their patience."
The Minister also would like to thank the TTS design team, the main Contractor, Trant, their subcontractors and all the site staff who have worked extremely long hours in difficult conditions to maintain this vital piece of infrastructure.
