Careers Jersey, with the support of Skills Jersey, is holding a ‘Back to Work’ event next Monday 22 March, 12pm – 4pm at St Paul’s Centre. This drop-in event has been designed to provide Islanders who are out of work with information, support and guidance to help them back into employment.
There will be a number of agencies present at the event, ranging from Careers Advisers helping with CVs, interview skills and career direction, to Jersey Enterprise offering advice and support to individuals considering self employment. The Jersey Association of Charities will be promoting volunteer opportunities and representatives from Income Tax, Social Security and Citizens Advice Bureau will be also on hand to answer questions and provide advice.
To help bridge any gaps between employers requirements and employees skills, training providers will be at the event to offer Islanders the information and contacts to help them re-train / up-skill to qualify for the vacancies that are available.
The next event on the Careers Jersey calendar is a third Jobs Fair, which will take place at St Helier Town Hall on Thursday 15 April. Operating along similar lines to the first 2 Jobs Fairs held in 2009, the fair will be an opportunity for job seekers and employers with current vacancies to meet, and where appropriate to arrange more formal interviews. The event will be open to the public from 12pm – 2pm and 5pm – 7pm. There are still stands available at this event for businesses with current vacancies.
Head of Careers Jersey, Andy Gibbs, explains “The latest figures from Social Security indicate that there are currently 1,200 people registered as unemployed on the Island. The Back to Work event will help individuals who are out of work to be as prepared as possible when relevant vacancies arise, which is especially important ahead of next month’s Jobs Fair.”
