At 4pm on Saturday 10 July 2010 the Fire and Rescue Service received a report of an unattended bonfire in St Peter that had started to spread to surrounding undergrowth. One fire engine with a crew of 5 personnel attended the incident.
The fire service are recommending that during this dry period it is not advisable to have a bonfire, but if it is absolutely necessary you should:
- inform the Fire and Rescue Service
- make sure that you have a suitable means to extinguish the fire
- never leave it unattended, as conditions can change rapidly
