The Fire and Rescue Service is warning smokers to extinguish their cigarettes properly, after attending a fire at a flat in Beach Crescent.
The fire broke out yesterday afternoon and 2 fire engines were sent to the scene.
4 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire using a high pressure hose reel, and positive pressure ventilation was used to help clear smoke from the property.
No one was injured, but the flat was severely damaged.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a cigarette that had not been extinguished properly. The Fire and Rescue service would like to point out that this incident highlights the dangers of not properly extinguishing smoking materials.
