Firefighters were called to Elizabeth Terminal in the early hours of Wednesday morning after an automatic fire alarm was activated at Elizabeth Terminal.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the kitchen of the café and found a small fire involving a commercial dishwasher. The fire was extinguished and firefighters remained on the scene for over an hour investigating the cause and ensuring the building was safe.
Watch manager Vibert said "The automatic fire alarm system actuated at the Elizabeth harbour terminal, alerting the fire service. The staff actions of ensuring that all fire doors were closed on their exit from the building prevented damage to the rest of the terminal and also averted what could have easily been a major incident."
