Mr Andrew Willis has been appointed as the new headteacher for Jersey College for Girls Prep with effect from January 2011.
Mr Willis is currently headteacher of St John’s school where he has been in post since September 2006. Previous to this Mr Willis had taught in a number of mainland and Jersey schools which included Janvrin, Le Squez (now Samares) and Victoria College Prep. His senior leadership experience prior to St John was as assistant headteacher at Grouville and then deputy headteacher at St Luke’s school.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr Willis said "I am extremely excited to be joining such a successful and respected school at a very interesting stage in its development and I look forward to getting to know the staff, the students and their families."
The Director of Education, Sport and Culture, Mario Lundy, was equally delighted with the appointment. “I think Andrew will make a great headteacher at Jersey College for Girls Prep. He has shown outstanding leadership skills at St John’s school and whilst the school community there will undoubtedly be sad to see him go, I’m sure that both the children and parents at JCG Prep will welcome his appointment”.
For the school year 2009 / 2010 Mr Willis took a sabbatical from his post as headteacher to spend a year teaching in China. He taught a year 6 class at the Etonhouse International School in Suzhou.
Mr Willis’ qualifications include an honours degree in History from the University of Sussex, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Liverpool and the National Professional Qualification for Headship.
