Harbour and police join forces to reduce marina crime

13 July 2010

The States of Jersey Police will be holding a Marine Crime Prevention initiative on Saturday 17 July.  Jersey Marinas will host the event which will take place on the New North Quay, by the Marina Leisure Centre, from 9am until 6pm.

Marine marking packs and crime reduction advice and assistance will be given out during the day and the States of Jersey Police will be assisted by a partnership of Jersey based security companies, who will present their marine based security products.

The States of Jersey Police and their partners in the community hope that boat owners will take this opportunity to visit them to take advantage of the products, advice and information on offer.

DC Jeremy House, Crime Reduction Officer said "It is important that we take the security of  marine craft as seriously as we do the security of our own home. Thieves are attracted to all kinds of things; they could take your outboard motor, your life raft or your expensive marine equipment."

Members of the public are reminded that anyone who believes they have witnessed an incident of boat crime or who sees something they feel is suspicious is asked to report it by calling 447705.
