2 consultants at Jersey’s General Hospital have been jointly appointed to the role of medical director by the Health and Social Services department.
Consultant ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeon, Mr Martyn Siodlak, and the consultant physician in General and Thoracic medicine, Dr Andrew Luksza, will provide the professional lead for medical staff. Mr Siodlak has been working at the hospital since 1996 and Dr Luksza since 2004.
They will be responsible for providing professional medical advice to the Corporate Management Executive and the hospital senior management team, ensuring patient safety is at the heart of decision-making in the department.
Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Anne Pryke, said “I’m delighted that we have appointed 2 candidates of such calibre to lead the department’s medical staff. I have every confidence that both Mr Siodlak and Dr Luksza will provide strong clinical leadership for my department.”
The role will form up to 40% of the work of each individual allowing them to maintain their clinical practice and continue supporting their areas of clinical sub-specialisation.
The selection panel’s independent medical advisor was Professor Julian Woolfson, a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology who works with Verita. Both Mr Siodlak and Dr Luksza will start their new roles on 1 November 2010.
