Representatives from the Education Department, the States Employment Board and the Teachers’ Panel met this morning to discuss conditions of service for teachers.
The meeting, which was planned some weeks ago, was described by the Director for Education, Sport and Culture, Mario Lundy, as very constructive. He said “We discussed changes to terms and conditions which have no cost impact. We are committed to exploring the options further but no conclusions have been reached as yet.
"We will keep parents and pupils fully informed and will do everything possible to minimise any disruption if teachers do take industrial action.”
Civil servants, manual workers, police and paramedics have accepted the pay offer offered to teachers - 2% this year and 2% next year.
