Parents are being advised to make contingency plans for their children tomorrow, in case road conditions force the school bus service to be cancelled.
Severe weather is forecast, and roads will be inspected by staff from the Transport and Technical Services department in the early hours of tomorrow morning. They will then liaise with Connex, who will decide whether or not it is safe to run the school and scheduled bus services.
The Education Director will close the schools if there is no bus service, and will announce the decision as soon as possible after 6am.
Mario Lundy says “I hope we can keep the schools open, but if conditions make that impossible, I intend to contact the local media soon after 6am at the latest. It would be helpful if parents could make contingency plans for their children in case schools do have to close.
"Even if the schools are open, we realise parents living in more rural areas may decide not to make the journey if they judge that conditions make driving dangerous.
“The best way to find out what is happening in the morning is here on the States of Jersey website, or through the local media. We will inform local radio and TV, and up to date information will be on air and on-line.”
