On Friday 12 March, officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS), and the Honorary Police of St Ouen conducted a road check on Route Des Laveurs.
250 vehicles passed through the road check, in which 3 vehicles were impounded, 16 drivers were issued with defect rectification notices, and 3 drivers were warned to attend a parish hall enquiry.
1 small commercial vehicle was impounded with defective steering and numerous other defects. A private car, impounded with defective tyres and brakes, will be inspected at DVS and, as the driver is being prosecuted, a report prepared.
A heavy motorcycle was impounded after the owner was found to be riding without a driving licence. This motorcyclist is also subject to prosecution.
Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir, commented “Although the number of vehicles passing through this check was only a very small sample, it was particularly concerning that the defects found were mostly very obvious and should have been easily identified by the driver. It is worth reminding all drivers and owners of motor vehicles that they are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and their driving licence and insurance are valid and up to date."
