Eco-Active, Recycle for Jersey and Standard Chartered Bank are embarking on a partnership with Jersey’s Young Enterprise Company Programme to champion sustainable business practice for budding young professionals.
The aim of this project will be to provide opportunities for the 95 Young Enterprise participants in this year’s scheme to engage with the broad range of principles of sustainable business practice. These will include:
- corporate social responsibility
- environmental auditing
- sustainable design
- waste minimisation
The participants will be introduced to their new Eco-Active Business advisers, Olivia Copsey from Eco-Active Business, Emma Richardson from Recycle for Jersey and Matthew Gaskell from Standard Chartered Bank, during a workshop held at Hautlieu School on Wednesday 6 October. After this event, the Eco-Active Business advisers will provide support to the Young Enterprise Achievers in between pre-arranged visits.
Facilities Manager at Standard Chartered Bank, Matthew Gaskell is looking forward to passing on his experience “Sustainable business practice makes good business sense, and both clients and staff now expect greater social responsibility from businesses. Incorporating these principles at every stage of the Young Enterprise experience will help to prepare the young business men and women for a responsible, modern and competitive local business market.”
The Minister of Planning and Environment, Senator Freddie Cohen, said "These creative and ambitious young people hold the key to a future where sustainability is at the core of every business. The Eco-Active Business scheme currently supports 90 local organisations of all sizes through a program of environmental improvement. This partnership is an important opportunity to share our experience with the business leaders of tomorrow.”
Acting Chairman of Young Enterprise Jersey, Beverley Le Cuirot, welcomes the challenges that Eco-Active Business will bring to the programme “Learning how to integrate sustainability issues into a responsible, efficient and successful business is crucial, especially in tough economic times. For the first time sustainability criteria will be incorporated into the Young Enterprise judging process in Jersey and this represents a very exciting development for our Young Enterprise programme.”
