15 June 2011
To tie in with the first ever National Reading Group Day, Jersey Library is hosting a Reading Group at Long Beach, Grouville on Monday 27 June 2011 between 11am-12 noon.
Reading Groups are growing in number and this is a new initiative to celebrate their success. They offer an opportunity to meet others whilst providing a great social forum, and research shows that they can also improve health and well being. Participants at the Long Beach event will be invited to discuss books they have read with a seaside theme.
Jersey Library holds a monthly reading group in the town library, where they discuss author's works as a whole rather than individual titles; this gives a wider focus and pleasantly informal discussions.
Judith Baker, Senior Librarian, Lending Services said "Reading can be a solitary experience, but it can also be something to shout about and it is good to let others know how you feel about a book. We invite everyone to come along to share their reading experiences and recommend a good summer read."
Refreshments will be provided, and Jersey Library are asking those attending to provide something to sit on.
