Transport and Technical Services will open a new bulky waste facility at La Collette on Tuesday 14 June. All commercial operators will have to deliver large combustible items to the new reception site adjacent to the Energy from Waste plant (EfW).
This change only affects commercial operators; members of the public delivering bulky waste should still go to Bellozanne. Bulky waste consists of large items of burnable waste such as furniture and mattresses which, if they cannot be recycled, are broken down, shredded and then disposed of in the EfW.
Relocating this process to La Collette will release much needed space at Bellozanne and allow the recycling centre to expand and, possibly, the green waste reception area to be relocated to Gate 4.
Connétable Mike Jackson, Minister for Transport and Technical Services, said, “This is another important milestone for the Island in terms of waste management, which will centralise commercial operations and reduce the logistical cost of transporting waste between Bellozanne and La Collette.”
