Gas Place car park is to close on 10 January 2011 at 8pm ready for construction work to start on the new Millennium Town Park.
Currently, about 380 people use the car park everyday and these drivers will have to find alternative places either in Green Street, Pier Road or Sand Street car parks where there is spare capacity, or in the small car park adjacent to Gas Place where there will be 122 spaces available for daytime and overnight parking until 24 January 2011.
Signs have been put up in the car park advising regular users of the changes in advance.
During the morning rush hour, parking control officers will be on hand to help drivers who wish to know the closest alternative parking available. They will also keep local radio stations updated on the availability of spaces so that drivers can drive directly to alternative parking.
Drivers are being advised to allow extra travelling time over the first few days of the change until they have got used to their new parking destinations.
Connétable Michael Jackson, the Minister for Transport and Technical Services, said “We are trying our utmost to make this change in parking arrangements as easy as possible for the public, by giving them advance notice of what is happening and providing advice about car parks where there is spare capacity. I do understand that people get into a routine and any change like this can be disruptive, however it is unavoidable.”
180 parking spaces will be made available on the Ann Court site for daytime and overnight parking when the small car park adjacent to Gas Place car park is no longer available later in January.
