25 August 2011
The Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Anne Pryke, has issued this statement following the death of Marta De La Haye.
"It is with sadness and regret that I can confirm following the official police identification, that one of the people who died following the tragic incident of Sunday 14 August, was a member of our staff.
"Marta De La Haye worked as a healthcare assistant on Maple Ward, based in Rosewood House, in the continuing care dementia unit, where she had worked since October 2010.
"Tragically, as we know, Marta's daughter, Julia also died in the incident.
"Since her death, I have had the opportunity to meet with Marta's colleagues who are trying to come to terms with what has happened. Marta was a very well respected and popular member of the nursing team.
"Her colleagues have described her as someone who clearly loved her work, was compassionate, caring and a delight to work with. I know she will be missed dearly by all her friends and colleagues.
"My thoughts and those of all of us at Health and Social Services are with her family and friends at this very sad and difficult time."
