A section of road side kerbs along Victoria Avenue are being cleaned between 15 – 19 August because they are below standard.
The kerbs, between Bel Royal and Rue de Galet, were installed as part of the road refurbishment that took place in 2009 but have since become partly discoloured, which shouldn't happen. The manufacturer has said the problem was a UK wide one which occurred during casting in England. The manufacturer has accepted responsibility and agreed to pay for the cleaning.
During the cleaning, a lane on Victoria Avenue will be closed off at certain times so the work can be carried out safely. This will be at off peak times between 9am and 4pm. A small number of parking spaces may also be unavailable.
Chief Officer for Transport and Technical Services, John Rogers, said: "The defects came to light as part of our usual contract management procedures. There is a period after every contract of this kind when we check to ensure everything is up to standard and if any defects are found or arise within this period, we can go back to the supplier and have them put right. This is exactly what’s happened here. We spotted the discolouration and spoke to the suppliers and they are now rectifying the defect at their own cost."
TTS is asking Islanders to take notice of the signs on the road and allow a little extra time for their journey, particularly if they're travelling to the airport.
