The Minister for Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, has announced the appointment of Doug Bannister as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Jersey Airport and Jersey Harbours.
Mr Bannister, a 46 year old American who holds dual British and American citizenship, is a former Managing Director of Maersk Line UK, the largest container shipping company in the world. He has over 20 years experience in international business, having led transportation organisations in North America, Europe, Asia, India and New Zealand.
The decision to appoint a GCEO for Jersey Airport and Jersey Harbours comes as a result of the planned management integration of these two States trading entities, which the Minister announced in the States Assembly last year. The resignation of the current airport director, Julian Green, provided the Minister with the opportunity to review the senior management structure at the 2 departments. Mr Bannister’s role will see him oversee the future strategic and financial structure of both Jersey Airport and Jersey Harbours.
The Minister for Economic Development said, "The long term success of the unified Ports of Jersey requires strong leadership. Not only does Doug have significant commercial and operational experience but he has extensive change management and integration knowledge, having led businesses, such as Maersk Line UK, through significant restructuring. I am confident that his all round leadership and commerciality will make him a great asset to both organisations."
In accepting the appointment, Mr Bannister said, "As the Island’s 2 strategic transportation assets, the Ports of Jersey provide crucial links to both passengers and freight. I am excited to be joining such professional organisations at a time when business transformation is necessary for their long-term success. I am very much looking forward to working with all involved in the Ports of Jersey to deliver winning results."
Mr Bannister is due to take up his appointment on 1 July 2011. Julian Green will remain in post as airport director until 30 September 2011 to ensure an orderly handover of responsibility.
