The registered unemployment report for October 2011 has been released by the Statistics Unit.
The October 2011 report shows that:
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work (ASW) in Jersey was 90 higher than a month earlier (September 2011) and 120 higher than the average for the preceding 3 months
- the non-seasonally adjusted ASW total was 1,500; this latest monthly total is 130 higher than a month earlier (September 2011), 210 higher than that of a year earlier (October 2010) and 500 higher than that of 2 years earlier (October 2009)
- long-term unemployment (registered for more than 52 weeks) has more than doubled during the last 12 months and now accounts for 1 in 5 of the ASW total
- 290 teenagers aged 16-19 years were registered as ASW; of these, 140 were on the Advance to Work scheme
